Meet Our Founder – Kurt Winterhalter

Our school is proudly owned and operated by Kurt Winterhalter, who brings over 40 years of driving instruction experience to every classroom and behind-the-wheel session. Kurt has taught thousands of students—teens, adults, and non-native English speakers—with a reputation for calm, personalized guidance that builds skills and trust behind the wheel.

As a state-licensed and fully insured program, you can rely on Behind The Wheel to deliver professional instruction that meets all Kansas requirements—whether you’re learning to drive for the first time or improving your record through a defensive driving course.

What Makes Us Different?

One-on-One Instruction
We believe the best results come from individualized attention. Our behind-the-wheel sessions are always private—just you and the instructor—so you can learn at your own pace without distractions
Courses That Fit Your Needs
We offer the 14 hour course for new drivers, and a 4 hour or 8 hour Defensive Driving Course for licensed drivers. Whether you are just starting your driving journey or you need to meet court requirements, reduce insurance rates, or become a safer driver, we have a course designed for your situation.
Inclusive Learning Environment
We’re proud to serve teens, adults, and foreign-speaking students. The Kansas Driver’s Manual is available in 20+ languages, and the written test is offered in 7 languages, making the licensing process more accessible for everyone.
